A woman with short curly hair trims citrus branches at a stone kitchen island in morning sun, a small vase in front of her and a coffee pot on the counter behind.

Three stems from the yard, done.

The island at seven, coffee going, a pair of kitchen scissors and whatever is growing by the back step. Citrus branches, a sprig of rosemary, a cosmos that got ambitious. The vase does the rest, and it is still out when you get home.

Noon Bud Vase, $42.00

A couple sits on a sofa in a sunlit living room with plants, a record player beside them and a lit candle, a bowl of oranges and a book on the coffee table.

The house at a different speed.

Six o'clock, record on, phone face down on the arm of the sofa. One candle on the coffee table between the oranges and the book you keep meaning to finish. That is the whole plan for the evening.

Dusk Vessel Candle, $58.00

The house keeps good hours.

A man in a robe leans over a filling bathtub to turn off the tap in a tiled bathroom, a small lit candle on the edge of the bath and steam lit by a frosted window.
The bath, late morning.
Two friends play cards at a small rooftop table in late afternoon light, a stick of incense burning on a tray between them and hills in the distance.
The rooftop, late afternoon.
A grandmother and a teenager carry plates toward a long wooden dining table lit by low evening sun, three lit candles and a vase of dahlias on the table.
Dinner, the last of the sun.

A wick to trim

A quarter inch before each lighting, and the first burn out to the edge.

A vessel to keep

When the wax is gone a Dusk Refill Candle drops into the same stone and the same lid goes back on.

A silver-haired woman steps onto a tiled porch with an armful of rosemary, dropping keys into a small tray by the open door next to a vase of rosemary.

Good to know before you light one

How do I look after the stone and the steel?

A damp cloth and a dry one. Travertine is a natural stone with open pitting, so wipe spills when you see them and skip the harsh cleaners. The brushed steel lids, collars and trays take a soft cloth and nothing more. Keep the vases on their steel liners so water stays off the stone, and dry a bowl or tray before you put it back on a wooden table.

Can I put a new candle in the same stone?

Yes, that is the whole idea. When the Dusk Vessel Candle burns down, lift out the spent wax, wipe the inside of the cylinder, and drop in a Dusk Refill Candle. It sits flush and the same brushed steel lid goes back on top. The stone stays on the table for years.

What is in the candles and the incense?

The candles are a blend of coconut and soy wax with a cotton wick, poured cream and unscented in colour so the stone does the talking. The Nightfall Incense Sticks are sandalwood and dried orange. The Nightfall Incense Cones are piñon and sage. Trim a candle wick to a quarter inch before each lighting, burn on a steady surface, and let the first burn reach the edge of the stone.

Does a standard taper fit the First Light holder?

It does. The brushed steel cup takes a standard taper, the kind sold by the pair at any grocery store or in a box at the hardware store. Drip onto the steel wipes off once it cools. The stone block is heavy enough to sit still on a cloth or a bare table.

How does shipping work?
